Tom Daley wins his second Tokyo Olympics medal with bronze in 10m final

Team GB icon Tom Daley won his second medal of Tokyo 2020 with a brilliant performance to clinch bronze in the men's 10m platform final.

Daley registered a formidable score of 98.60 in his first dive and overtook Cao Yuan of China after the second round by posting 91.20.

The 27-year-old – who triumphed in the 10m synchro earlier in the Games – then delivered his 'firework' dive to earn another impressive score of 91.80 and keep his nose in front.

But Daley's alignment was slightly awry in his fourth effort and he slipped to third behind Yuan and his compatriot Yang Jian.

Daley roared back to form with scores of 94.35 in his fifth dive and 91.80 in his sixth, but he was unable to topple Yuan and world-champion Jian, who won gold and silver respectively.

Although he could not clinch a second gold medal, Daley can be hugely proud of his performances at Tokyo 2020, which come 13 years after he made his Olympics debut as a 14-year-old at Beijing 2008.

The Plymouth native won bronze in the 10m platform at London 2012 and 10m synchro at Rio 2016, but he failed to reach the platform final at the Brazil Games.

Daley bounced back from his Rio disappointment to earn his first taste of Olympic gold alongside Matty Lee in the 10m synchronised diving.

Cheered on by husband Dustin Lance Black and son Robbie watching at home, Daley added to that triumph with another medal which caps a brilliant Tokyo 2020 for Team GB in the aquatics centre.
