Paige Spiranac slams Phil Mickelson and Saudi rebels over ‘s*** ton of money’

Golf beauty Paige Spiranac has aimed a scathing taunt at the likes of Phil Mickleson ahead of the first Saudi-backed LIV Golf invitational event this week.

On Thursday, a venture that threatens to change the face of the sport forever tees off at The Centurion Club in St Albans. The winner of the 54-hole event will receive a huge £3.8 million in prize money, whilst a team tournament will run alongside the individual event.

The rebel tour is the brainchild of LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman, who this week was boosted by confirmation that six-time major winner Phil Mickleson had signed up to the compete. 'The Great White Shark' also admitted he had unsuccessfully made an audacious $1 billion offer to Tiger Woods.

The decision of Mickleson, 51, represents a huge blow to the PGA Tour and comes after a recent break from the sport, following explosive comments in February where he labelled the state of Saudi Arabia as "crazy motherf***." His antics were publicly criticised by the likes of Rory McIlroy.

This week, he took to social media to release a long-winded statement, where he apologised to the people he "offended and hurt" by his previous behaviour: “I have made mistakes in my career in some of the things I have said and done," he added.

He went on to say he was "thrilled to begin with LIV Golf," and still intended to play in major championships. But social media personality Spiranac, who combines racy uploads with online golf tips, wasn't impressed.

Has Mickleson simply signed up for the money? Let us know in the comments section.

"These elaborate statements are annoying," she tweeted. "No one going to the LIV tour actually cares about the progression of the game. I wish they just said 'because it’s a s**t ton of money'."

Whilst Spiranac didn't specifically name 'Big Phil', the star undoubtedly played a part in fuelling her rant after her tweet was posted following his confirmation. And Dustin Johnson now may soon be in the firing line, having announced on Tuesday he was resigning from the PGA Tour.

One follower also tried to jibe back at Spiranac, 29, by pointing out the prices she put on her merchandise: "Like selling a towel for $250 lol," @mLOCKdaBOSS said. The American wasn't fazed though, replying "Shameless is my middle name."
