Amir Khan and Kell Brook to finally fight a decade after it should have happened

Amir Khan will finally fight bitter rival Kell Brook after the two boxers agreed a catchweight, according to reports.

The two former world title winners have come close to fighting each other for the best part of a decade, with Khan having reigned at light welterweight and Brook’s prime coming at welterweight.

A long-running feud, however, has never materialised with a fight in the ring and the pair’s potential meeting on December 4 was once again pushed back after talks broke down.

Now The Mirror report that fans can enjoy what was once set to be the biggest British boxing fight after a catchweight of 150lb was agreed.

The bout is set to be officially announced next week, though it will not hold the weight it once did in British boxing history.

It likely would have taken place in front of a packed out Wembley crowd as originally expected around 2011 while Khan was at the height of his career.

By 2012, Khan’s star was already fading after consecutive defeats to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia.

The Bolton-born fighter, 34, last fought in 2019 where he defeated Billy Dib, while Brook was knocked out by Terence Crawford last year.

But Brook, 35, insisted that “everybody knows the fight needs to happen” despite its delay.

Speaking to IFL TV, Brook said: "When you’ve been in the game for 26 years, you lose the taste for it.

"I need a big massive fight to get my teeth into.

"And the fight we all want to see is the guy from Bolton. I've signed my part of the fight. He just needs to come forward and sign his part and we've got the biggest fight in British boxing.

"We've signed our bit, we're doing what we're doing. Listen, we don't need to hide about it, everybody knows there are whispers. Everybody knows this fight needs to happen.

"I've not been in front of a camera. He's been saying he wants it. I've done my thing, let's see if he does his, and we've got the biggest fight in British boxing.

"I've got a feeling that the timing is now, but I've said that before, who knows with this guy. That's the only fight that will excite me in boxing.”
