Canelo Alvarez’s net worth is six times the size of rival Gennadiy Golovkin’s

Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin are both multi-millionaires thanks to their lengthy period of success in the boxing ring – but the undisputed super-middle king is far richer.

The 32-year-old Mexican, who has won 57 of his 61 professional bouts including eight of his last nine, is the biggest star on the planet thanks to his domination at his current weight.

Golovkin, who is a two-time unified champion and one of the best middleweights in history, has won 42 of his 44 bouts having drawn with Canelo in 2017 and lost the following year.

Canelo is thought to have earned £34m for the first bout and £26m for the second before seven consecutive title fight victories – boosting his net worth to a whopping £157m.

However, that figure could now be higher with Forbes reporting that Canelo won £78m in 2021 alone thanks to his wins over Avni Yildirim, Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Golovkin is currently worth in the region of £25m, but that could also be higher considering his £20m of earnings in 2019 and £87m deal with Dazn that is set to expire.

Canelo once signed an 11-fight deal with DAZN worth an estimated £365m, but that specific contract was terminated after just three fights in 2021.

Canelo goes into the bout on the back of a defeat having moved up to light-heavyweight and lose to WBA (Super) champion Dmitry Bivol back in May.

He will also have more to lose than his opponent by putting the four unified super middleweight belts on the line and not Golovkin's two middleweight straps.

With their first bout ending in a controversial draw and second an even more controversial win for Canelo, Golovkin is counting on a win in the trilogy despite recently turning 40.

Golovkin has said: "He has the right to say that it's personal, I think that he says it because this is [my] last fight on DAZN.

"There is an agreement with DAZN and after that there'll be no obligations. He thinks he his in a position, because a lot of time has passed, that he can voice those accusations and that he can knock me out."

With Canelo saying back in June: "He always pretends to be a nice guy, like in front of people.

"He's an a**hole, that's what he is. He's an a**hole. It is what it is. I don't pretend to be nice. This is the way I am. I don't pretend to be another person.

"He's always pretending in front of you and people, 'Oh, I'm a nice guy.' He's not."
