Daniel Dubois may have kept the trash talk to a minimum with Joe Joyce this week but it didn't stop him joking he would chuck his rival's art work in the bin.
Dynamite Dubois takes on Joyce for the British, Commonwealth and European titles tonight in a blockbuster battle at Church House in Westminster.
It is a well-told tale about Joyce that he has an art degree and likes to paint in his spare time including pictures of heavyweight icons such as Muhammad Ali and Joe Louis.
But Dubois couldn't help himself having a little dig at his rival by claiming not even his market trading dad Dave would flog Joyce's work.
“Trash that,” joked Dubois. “Throw that in the bin.”
When he stopped laughing, Dubois thought back to his days working alongside his dad at markets and how it helps him now in the ring.
It is well-known it was Dave who sent Dubois and his talented siblings, which include Olympic hopeful Caroline, down the path of boxing.
But when not in the gym as a kid, the Greenwich bruiser was travelling around the country learning about belief and confidence with his wheeler dealer father.
“I loved those days, they were probably the best days of my life,” he said.
“He had a way with making people come and buy, it was crazy. It was like magic. He was a master at his stuff and I'm trying to do the same with boxing. He sold artwork and other stuff.
“He was one of the best, one of the best in the world. I've got to try to use that confidence and skill and use it in the boxing ring.”
Dubois laughed off the suggestion he might be Rodney if his dad was like Del Boy but being a millionaire and having the world at his feet is not some wishful thinking like it was for the Trotter family in the famous sitcom at least.
It could soon be a reality.
Joe Joyce’s head trainer tests positive for Covid-19 before Daniel Dubois fight
This is a huge night for Dubois, who is the heavy favourite, to make Joyce his 16th professional victim and 15th by knockout.
There is talk of a world title shot as early as next year while he is seen by many as the man to take over from Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury one day as the leader of the British heavyweight scene.
But tonight is the biggest test of his credentials to be able to fill those big shoes in the future as Joyce is an Olympic silver medallist and, at 35, has much more experience even if he has had less pro fights.
His dad calls mid interview as is often the case and Dubois plucks out a Nokia phone that looks tiny in his huge hands and so old you would have to wonder if it can even send text messages.
“How is he coping? I'd say he is f***ing going crazy, you know with nerves,” said Dubois, who has been in the fight hotel since Tuesday due to rules around Covid-19. But I'm calm, he's calm and everyone is alright at home.”
There won't be any punters there tonight, obviously, but the support behind Dubois continues to grow and the fan base will only get bigger if he comes out on top.
“I'm going to try to entertain the British fans,” he added. “Everyone can sit back and watch, don't blink. It's going to be amazing.”
A sales pitch his dad would be proud of.
