Khabib Nurmagomedov in weigh-in scare as UFC champion faces Justin Gaethje

Khabib Nurmagomedov was a relieved man as he stripped naked to make the lightweight limit for his UFC title defence against Justin Gaethje.

The Russian was the first man on the scales and required a towel as he weighed exactly 155lb in Abu Dhabi.

Nurmagomedov has struggled to make weight in the past and his face was the picture of relief as he clenched his fists.

Gaethje looked far more comfortable as he weighed in for the biggest fight of his career having earned his shot at the champion by beating Tony Ferguson at short notice earlier this year.

Should Nurmagomedov extend his unbeaten record to 29, he will establish himself as the pound-for-pound No.1.

UFC president Dana White said this week: "Khabib is looking down the barrel of not only the greatest to ever do it in this division, but listen, I think if he beats Justin on Saturday, he’s the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world and he’s on his way to GOAT status.

"He’s one of the biggest stars in the sport. Khabib’s videos have generated 222 million views. His content that features him, over 100 million video views just this year alone, just on Facebook.

"He’s broken records on Instagram. I could just rattle off numbers all day. He’s by far the No. 1 most played character in the video game globally by a long shot."

The man himself has no doubt he will prove to be too much for Gaethje to handle.

"With me, it’s going to be completely different," he said.

"He has to worry about takedowns, he was to worry about boxing, he has to worry about kicking, he has to worry about grappling, he has to worry about MMA.

"This is not a striking game. He has to worry about conditioning, he has to worry about my pressure.

"I’m going to give him so much. He has to be ready.”
