‘My god’: World reacts to insane KO

The two men had battled out a gruelling opening five rounds, with Davis marginally ahead on the judges’ scorecards.

It was in the sixth when Davis showed off his truly destructive power with an uppercut for the ages.

As Santa Cruz stood with his back against the ropes, Davis unleashed the hellacious left-handed uppercut that left his opponent flat on his back seeing stars.

The out of this world shot left many worrying for Santa Cruz as he remained motionless on the canvas for more than a minute before getting back to his feet and saluting the crowd.

In his post-fight interview, Davis said the punch was perfectly set up with Santa Cruz in an inescapable position.

“He was right there for it. He punches, but he don’t try to get out of the way,” he said.

“I baited him in, there was nowhere he could’ve went. The ropes were right there and that’s how a professional fight goes.

“He’s a tough warrior, a strong Mexican. He came ready, but I was the person tonight.”

The win adds the WBA super featherweight belt to Davis’ collection to go with the WBA lightweight title. Asked who he wants next, the champ wasn’t wasting his time calling out any fighter.

“I’m a pay per view star. I’m not ducking or dodging. I’m number one and I’ll continue to show it,” he said.

“I don’t have to call anybody out right now.

“I’m the top dog, so just line them up and I’ll knock them down one by one.”

The insane finish sent social media into meltdown with Davis quickly flying up the trending pages.

“OMG! Davis with lands a massive uppercut in rd 6 and knocks Santa Cruz out cold! Holy sh*t,” boxing journalist Dan Rafael wrote.

LA Times journalist Dan Woike wrote: “Damn that’s a knockout – Gervante Davis with a bomb that detonates under Leo Santa Cruz’s chin.”
