Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua could be back on with negotiations revived to stage the fight in the UK in September.
Talks for what would be the biggest fight in the history of British heavyweight boxing have repeatedly collapsed over the years, most recently in September last year.
ESPN report Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn and George Warren of Queensberry Promotions have now picked up those negotiations once again, with Fury instructing his team to push for a fight with ‘AJ’.
Fury has not fought since his December 2022 win over Derek Chisora and is eager to fight again this summer.
His fight with WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk fell through in spectacular fashion in March, with talks recently taking place for ‘The Gypsy King’ to fight in Australia against Demsey McKean or cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia.
Joshua meanwhile was in action in April, beating Jermaine Franklin on points in what was his first fight under new trainer Derrick James.
The two-time world champion is also eager to fight this summer with a rematch with Dillian Whyte in August being discussed.
Amid all that, there have been negotiations for a spectacular four-man tournament in Saudi Arabia involving the division’s biggest hitters; Joshua, Wilder, Usyk and Fury.
There are plans for Joshua and Wilder to finally meet in the ring, potentially on the same night Usyk and Fury collide in their undisputed title clash in a historic event for the sport.
ESPN report that spectacular double header is still being explored.
Fury vs Joshua fight fell through in the summer of 2021 while Joshua was still world champion, thwarted by Wilder’s successful arbitration case to force a third fight against the ‘The Gypsy King’.
Following the Olympian’s second successive defeat to Usyk last year, Fury offered Joshua a shot at his WBC title last September with Joshua agreeing to a 60-40 split in the champion’s favour but parties were unable to agree on other terms.
Joshua’s promoter Hearn revealed this week Joshua is back in training camp for a proposed August fight.
