Ryan Fitzpatrick’s miracle throw helps Dolphins knock off Raiders in absurd ending

With 16 seconds remaining and the Dolphins backed up in their own territory, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick’s right arm and twisted head formed an “L” shape as he let go of a high-arcing pass.

The losses for the Raiders defense on that miracle heave were two-fold: The ball somehow found receiver Mack Hollins, and the facemask-jerk Fitzpatrick took tacked 15 yards onto the already long gain. Miami entered field goal range at the Las Vegas 26 with the sequence.

Moments later, Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders drilled a game-winning 44-yard kick.

“If we need to go to a relief pitcher in the ninth, it’s what we’ll do,” Dolphins coach Brian Flores said of bringing in Fitzpatrick in the fourth quarter to replace a healthy Tua Tagovailoa.

Fitzpatrick, who has earned the nickname “FitzMagic” during his career, earned widespread celebration on social media for his heroics. The Raiders, who missed an extra point and settled for a field goal inside the 10 on their final two possessions, were mocked.

Below are some of the reactions to the improbable finish, which eliminated the Raiders from playoff contention while putting the Dolphins on the verge of clinching a berth.
