Titans A.J. Brown blames Chipotle for food poisoning that left him questionable for game vs. Bills

A.J. Brown was questionable in the lead-up to the Titans’ 34-31 win over the Bills on “Monday Night Football.” This was nothing new for Brown, who has dealt with a hamstring injury for most of the 2021 NFL season, but he was listed with a new malady on the injury report.

Brown was dealing with an illness before the Titans-Bills game. And on Monday, fans were provided with more clarity on what happened. He was dealing with food poisoning.

What was the source of that food poisoning?

“Chipotle,” Brown revealed to reporters after Tennessee’s win. “I’m sorry, Chipotle. Probably won’t get an endorsement with Chipotle.”

Brown laughed at his reveal, but his bout with food poisoning was anything but fun. He lost eight pounds over 48 hours as a result of his sickness and had to take fluid intravenously to play against the Bills.

“I got like three IVs,” Brown said. “I got two this morning. I got a bag-and-a-half before the game. Like I said earlier, I didn’t know if I was gonna play or not, but they expected me to play.”

As one would expect, Brown was hindered a bit by his sickness. That’s part of why he struggled out of the gate and failed to record a catch in the first half.

“The first half, to be honest, man, I was feeling really bad,” Brown said, per The Tennessean. “I couldn’t get myself going. They was trying to bring me along slow because they knew they’d need me in the second half.”

That approach worked, as Brown recorded seven catches for 91 yards in the second half and helped keep the Titans’ offense moving down the stretch. Tennessee lost Julio Jones to another hamstring injury, so having Brown on the field, even at less than 100 percent, proved critical.

Brown’s availability will continue to be important, especially if Jones’ injury sidelines him for any amount of time. So, Mike Vrabel and the Titans might want to keep Brown away from Chipotle during that time, however good their burritos and bowls may be.
