Pre-competition rituals are not uncommon in sport.
Basketball star Lebron James would read a speech given by former US president Teddy Roosevelt, World Cup winner Jurgen Klinsmann used to down an espresso and fellow footballer Rio Ferdinand's routine was far too complicated to detail.
But former F1 world champion Nico Rosberg might have had the most disgusting of them all, after he revealed he used to intentionally wet himself sometimes before a race.
"At the beginning of my career, I couldn't be bothered to go to the bathroom," said the German unashamedly.
"It’s always very distracting to walk through the crowd and everything there and then find the bathroom somewhere.
"So anyways, I didn’t used to go to the bathroom. Sorry for the mechanics, but I actually did my little toilet in the car, before the start.
"But with all the heat and evaporation, I think it was okay.
"I never told the mechanics I was with at Williams, but then eventually at Mercedes I went to the bathroom always as well."
After starting his career in F1 with Williams, Rosberg followed the well-trodden path to Mercedes in 2010 and would later win the drivers' title with the Silver Arrows before calling time on his racing days.
He now makes regular TV appearances covering the sport, and it was speaking to Sky Sports when he elaborated on his horrible habit.

"I promise you, having a full bladder whilst you’re racing at 300kph is the worst feeling possible," he explained.
"You can’t do it whilst racing because you have all the adrenaline, so you have to make sure that you plan that properly."
It's not the only toilet-themed anecdote Rosberg has told since packing in his racing career.
The German told Daniel Ricciardo in 2019 about a time when legendary racer Michael Schumacher pulled a prank on him, which resulted in him peeing in an oil bucket just before a qualifying session.

He said: "There’s only one toilet in the garage and so he’s in the toilet and I go down and it’s 10 minutes before and I know that I have my two-minute session now for the last pee, then jump in the car and go, qualifying.
"So I knock on the door because it’s always locked. 'Nico here, please let me in' because usually it’s the mechanics who will then know in this moment I have to be the priority. No answer, nothing. So I’m like knocking, knocking — no answer, locked — but I can hear that someone’s in there.
"Here was Michael, in the toilet, leaning against the wall looking at his watch and he knew as long as he made it out with three minutes to go, he could just about jump in the car, put the seat belts on and go before losing actual time and ruining the whole team strategy of qualifying."
