Mercedes have accused Red Bull of 'attempting to tarnish the good name" of their lead driver Lewis Hamilton following his collision with Max Verstappen at the British GP.

The F1 icon, who is looking for his eight Drivers' Championship this season, was involved in a crash with Verstappen as Silverstone which out his young foe out of the race.

With the veteran going on to win and close the gap in the table Red Bull called for further punishment following his 10-second penalty on the day of the race.

While that appeal came to nothing, Mercedes have been left with a bad taste in the mouth and hit out at their rival constructor with a statement accusing them of questioning Hamilton.
