Sebastian Vettel compared to ’70s porn star’ and John McEnroe with new look

Sebastian Vettel turned up at his final Italian Grand Prix as an F1 driver sporting an intriguing new look.

The four-time world champion, who will retire at the end of the season, has grown his hair long in recent times, possibly a hint that he may now be feeling freer after announcing his exit from the sport.

But as he faced the media ahead of this weekend’s race at Monza, Vettel showed off more facial hair than usual, plus a white headband, to the delight of many F1 fans, who were quick to take to social media to give their verdict.

Some suggested he looked like a 1970s porn star while others felt he bore more of a resemblance to 1980s tennis icon John McEnroe.

“Is Seb gonna join a German metal band when he leaves F1? ‘He got the look’, as they say,” tweeted one while another added: “Vettel going for the 70s porn star look.”

A third said: “Looking more like John McEnroe every week” and a fourth commented: “Vettel going for the 70s porn star look.”

There was debate over what decade Vettel’s look belonged in, with one fan tweeting: “Seb is becoming a man of the 80s,” while another posted: “He looks like he’s going to play his final match at US Open.”

Speaking ahead of the weekend, the former Ferrari driver, whose first-ever F1 victory came at Monza in 2008, said: “I’m looking forward to the weekend, it’s usually a great atmosphere. There’s a lot of support for Ferrari and for Formula 1.

“For me it has a bit of extra meaning because I celebrated my first win here. Your first win is always something pretty special.”

Vettel sat out the first practice session of the weekend as Nyck de Vries, who is looking secure a place on the grid for 2023, took part in his third FP1 of the season following previous outings with Williams and Mercedes.
