The medical subs

In case you missed the news this week, the AFL has added a 23rd player to each side but that player can only be used to replace a player who has been medically ruled out of the game such as with a concussion.

Carlton has named new recruit Oscar McDonald as their 23rd man while Marlion Pickett has replaced Trent Cotchin who is ill and Jack Ross will take that 23rd spot for the Tigers.

Good evening all

G’day everyone! It’s Roy Ward here and I’ll be taking the first bounce for tonight’s AFL season-opener between Richmond Tigers and Carlton Blues as an expected crowd of 50,000 fans watches on.

These two teams rarely let us down when it comes to opening the AFL season with a compelling game although we’ve had a shock out today with Richmond skipper Trent Cotchin a late omission after battling illness this week.

Please feel free to leave a comment on the blog and let us know your thoughts on tonight’s contest.

First bounce is set for 7.25pm AEDT. Enjoy the night to come and here is a cool video from Richmond showing the walk from the rooms onto the MCG.
