Anthony Martial has been compared with Man Utd legend Ruud van Nistelrooy following his potent hat-trick against Sheffield United on Wednesday.
The Frenchman scored all three goals as The Blades were put to the sword at Old Trafford – taking his tally to 14 in this Premier League season.
Martial showed a real striker's instinct to bag his first two goals, guiding the ball home both times from inside the six-yard box.
His third was the pick of the bunch, chipping over on-rushing Blades keeper Simon Moore from close range, drawing praise from former Blackburn and Chelsea striker Chris Sutton.
"They were typical finishes of a No 9, sniffing them out in the penalty area," Sutton told The Mail. "I’ve always worried about his instinct in the box and thought he played on the back foot too much, but these goals were what you’d expect from a Ruud van Nistelrooy type."
It was the first hat-trick by a United player in Premier League action in over seven years, with Robin van Persie the last to hit a treble against Aston Villa in 2013.
Van Nistelrooy hit a total of five hat-tricks during his time at the club, and the vast majority of his goals were poachers finishes from inside the box.
United have been continually linked with a move for a new striker, having never replaced the departed Romelu Lukaku, with Harry Kane previously rumoured as their priority target.
But with Martial in such inspired form, Sutton feels he could be the solution to spearhead United's attack going forward.

"I’ve always seen Martial’s best position as dribbling off the left but he has all of the attributes to play in that central role," Sutton added.
"It would be unusual for a club as big as Manchester United to mould a player to a new position rather than buying a proven goalscorer, but Martial is still only 24 years old and could be the answer, although we will need to see a lot more of this."
