Antony explains key trait of Man Utd team-mate Ronaldo he wants to emulate

Antony has revealed the key trait of Manchester United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo he hopes to emulate.

The winger, who arrived from Ajax for some £86million over the summer, has been full of praise for his fellow attacker, saying there are parts of the superstar’s game that he hopes to one day have himself.

“Since I arrived here, Cristiano Ronaldo has really helped me feel at ease; he speaks to me a lot, on matchdays as well," the Brazilian ace said to United’s official site. “He always tells me to be calm and confident, he’s achieved so much in football and I learn from him every day. I’m really grateful to have such an experienced person teaching us young players every day.”

And when asked what area he hopes to improve upon by working with the veteran superstar, Antony said:: “His mentality, it’s so strong. He’s very intelligent. This mentality of his, looking to the next day, everything still to play for, it’s what I’m trying to take on board and keep for the rest of my life.”

Ronaldo is coming up to the final year of his contract at United – while his future remains relativity uncertain. The Portugal international had been linked with a move away from the Premier League giants over the summer, but he ended up remaining. But still, reports persist that Ronaldo may be leaving in January.

Ronaldo is able to negotiate a deal with another club as soon as the next transfer window, which is happening in January after the Qatar World Cup.

However, United boss Erik ten Hag has indicated that Ronaldo will continue his goal-scoring tally after he opened his account for the league season in the club’s 2-1 win over Everton.

After the game, the Dutchman said: "That is really impressive, when you score 700 goals. It's a huge performance, I'm really happy for him. I congratulate him on that performance and I'm also happy it's his first goal this season in the Premier League – he had to wait for it and I'm sure there will be more goals.

"I think every player needs it, even when you are the best in the world, you need it, you need the goals. And I worked with many goalscorers, especially them, they need goals in every season to have that feeling, to have the confirmation of the intuition. And once they have some goals, they come in the flow and games go easier. That will happen with him as well."
