Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta should build his side around youngsters Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Joe Willock, Manchester United hero Rio Ferdinand claims. The Gunners had won their last three Premier League games before the season was suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Arsenal were taking strides under Arteta, who has impressed since replacing Unai Emery at the Emirates.
The emergence of young left-back Saka has been a shining light for the former Manchester City assistant.
Saka, 18, has netted three goals and chipped in with eight assists in all competitions this season.
Fellow youngsters Martinelli and Willock have also impressed under Arteta, with the trio becoming fan favourites.
And pundit Ferdinand claims Arteta should build his team around the young core of Saka, Martinelli and Willock.
“Really you’re meant to be looking at centre-halves, they should’ve been looking there for the last 10 years and they haven’t got it right,” Ferdinand said on Instagram Live.
“Arsenal is a fantastic football club, what a club, a massive club. I think they’ve got to get it right in other areas of the pitch.
“Keep bringing in these [players], [Gabriel] Martinelli, [Bukayo] Saka, [Joe] Willock, all these boys.
“I love seeing that but they’ve got to get stability and strength in there, some people who will do good for the club, because it hasn’t worked with the likes of Sokratis and Mustafi, I don’t think they haven’t been able to get it right, and Chambers before that.”
Arsenal are ready for a busy summer transfer window.
The Gunners have been tipped to sign a striker with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future up in the air.

Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic is said to be a target for Arsenal, however, Ferdinand has urged Arteta to invest in his defence before signing the Serbia international.
“He is someone who could add something to Arsenal but I don’t think Arsenal need a player in that position,” Ferdinand added.
“Arsenal need centre-halves. They need centre-halves who can defend and play as well.
“I played against Arsenal teams with the likes of Sol Campbell and Tony Adams. I don’t see that now. They have many good footballers but you need a blend.
“Why are they going for Jovic when they need to be looking at centre-halves?
“Arsenal is a fantastic club, what a club. But they need to get it right in other areas of the pitch.”
