Chelsea have outlined their transfer stance over Jorginho amid Arsenal interest.
The Gunners have been forced to change their plans in midfield after talks with Lyon over the potential signing of Houssem Aouar broke down just days before the deadline.
Despite also being linked to Thomas Partey of Atletico Madrid, Italy international Jorginho is said to be in the thoughts of Mikel Arteta and his technical director Edu at the Emirates.
However, the 28-year-old creator has been a regular starter under Frank Lampard – and scored twice against Crystal Palace on Sunday to hand Chelsea their first home win of the Premier League season.
ESPN have now reported that Chelsea would be ‘reluctant’ to allow the player to join their London rivals without signing a replacement, and they are running out of time.
Having said that, Lampard is said to recognise that he needs to reduce his squad size before the window closes after a summer spree that saw the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell join.
Lampard said of the player before the current season begun: “I do not think [he has] a point to prove
“He proves it in training and when he plays. Simply these things are selection. I just want to see the usual Jorginho.”
Arteta, who is said to be desperate to sign the former Napoli man, has made no secret of his desire for the club to bring in another player before the window shuts on Monday.
He said: "I am very confident with what we are trying to do internally.
“The clarity and support that I am finding from everybody at the club to try to improve the team as we can, but most importantly, to get the right balance in the squad for now and the way we want to evolve the squad in the future.
“So, we are all very much aligned. I'm afraid I cannot give you any updates or news."

Before adding: “I am very happy because the way we are acting around the market and the squad, the link between myself, Edu and the board is really good.
“After, in a deal you have three or four parties involved but I’m really happy with the link at the moment.
“We are trying our maximum, full support from the owners. With what we have, believe me, we will try our best.”
