Arsenal chiefs ‘calling Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang every day’ but star wants Barcelona move

Arsenal chiefs are reportedly on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s case every day in a bid to persuade him to stay at the Emirates Stadium. The Gabon international was the hero for the Gunners in last weekend’s FA Cup final as he scored twice to down Chelsea at Wembley.

It was a performance that highlighted just how important Aubameyang is to Mikel Arteta’s rebuild in north London.

That’s why the club’s hierarchy are sweating over the future of their star man, who has just one year remaining on his contract.

Arsenal have seen the likes of Robin van Persie and Alexis Sanchez leave for cheap after failing to agree new deals.

Arteta is desperate to avoid a repeat with Aubameyang, who has an offer worth £250,000-a-week on the table.

The former Borussia Dortmund forward is taking his time to decide though and he currently has no other offers on the table from other clubs.

There was talk that he was keen to join Chelsea in January and knows this could be the last big move of his career.

“He knows what I think about him, I want to build a squad around him,” Arteta recently said. I want him to stay, it’s about getting the deal done.”

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Aubameyang is waiting to see whether any other clubs make their move.

“They’re talking and it’s up to Aubameyang because the contract was offered to him many months ago,” Romano told the Beautiful Game Podcast.

Arsenal handed Thomas Partey transfer ultimatum as Atletico Madrid make swap deal decision

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta agrees with Unai Emery on £50m target who wants transfer

Arsenal have already responded to Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey transfer ultimatum

“For Aubameyang, they offered him an important contract and he’s going to decide soon.

“Arteta is working every day to try and convince him, they want him to stay absolutely and they’re trying in every way.

“I’m told also that in this moment Aubameyang was waiting to see if other top clubs can offer him a contract like Barcelona if they don’t get Lautaro or other clubs.

“At the moment, no one made a big for Aubameyang. The hope of Arsenal is to wait one week, two weeks or three weeks and that he’ll say ‘Okay, I’ll stay here. The club wants me and the manager wants me and I feel important for this club.’

“That is the hope of Arsenal but at the moment he has no other bid but he hopes for Barcelona.”

Barcelona have previously expressed an interest in Aubameyang but they are currently focused on trying to land Lautaro Martinez.

Romano claims Aubameyang’s preference is to join the Spanish giants.

“Because if Barcelona do not get Lautaro and it is so difficult to get Lautaro this summer and if they don’t then they will go for another kind of striker,” he added.

“Aubameyang is absolutely on the list but at the moment they did not make an offer to Arsenal.

“The hope of the player is Barcelona but he is also considering staying at Arsenal because they are doing everything to keep him.

“Arteta and the board are calling him every day to convince him but at the moment there is a good possibility he will stay.”
