Arsenal fans ‘most optimistic’ about new season while Chelsea fans fear worst

Arsenal supporters are the most optimistic ahead of the new season while Chelsea fans are among the most pessimistic.

The Gunners enjoyed a fruitful campaign last season, even though they finished in fifth spot in the Premier League and missed out on a Champions League place. The side was bolstered over the summer with Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City, Fabio Vieria from Porto, Matt Turner from New England, and Marquinhos from Sao Paulo.

And now fans – as per a recent survey in The Athletic – are joint top with Tottenham with their levels of optimism going into the new season.

And Chelsea – who equally have had a transfer-laden summer with their new American owners – are the polar opposite. Fans are very much of the opinion that they will not do well this season, even under the wing of Champions League-winning manager Thomas Tuchel.

Icon Sergio Aguero has actually backed Arsenal to be this year's surprise package in the league, saying that they will be the ‘dark horses’. Manager Mikel Arteta has splashed around £118million in this window. And this has made Aguero believe they could even emerge as contenders for the title.

Speaking to Stake.Com, Aguero said: “Arsenal are dark horses for the title after their transfer business, but Man City and Liverpool are clearly favourites.

“As always, I believe that the Premier League will show this season that it is beginning to be one of the most competitive leagues in the world. And in this sense, my candidates are Manchester City, which I think can repeat, Liverpool, Chelsea and I add Arsenal, which has strengthened very well and has had great games in the pre-season.

“City’s advantage is that it already has a team that knows what to do on the field and has added variants such as Haaland and Julian Alvarez. It is true that they must adapt but Pep has already said that great players do not need time to adapt. City have lost Sterling, although Liverpool – who will be in the fight – have lost Mane but have brought in Darwin Nunez.”
