Arsenal could lose out in the race to land Jude Bellingham next summer as a result of the need to offer the midfielder a sky-high salary, according to reports. The Gunners and several other Premier League sides have been linked with a potential future move for Bellingham, who is widely regarded as one of Europe’s brightest talents after impressing at Borussia Dortmund over the last few years.

Arsenal are said to be on the lookout for a new midfielder and have been tipped to emerge as serious contenders for Bellingham’s signature if they are able to secure Champions League qualification for next season. However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes that the financial implications of such a deal would see Arsenal miss out, with some of Europe’s biggest clubs able to delve deeper into their pockets.

“I think Arsenal are doing fantastic but it’s also about the salary,” wrote Romano in his column for Caught Offside. “This is why other Premier League and La Liga clubs can offer a different kind of contract. Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, Man United and of course Real Madrid really want him.”

It seems as though Real Madrid have emerged as Bellingham’s most likely suitors over the last few weeks, with the Spanish giants already said to be preparing to bring him to the Bernabeu at the end of the season. They recently opened initial talks with the player’s representatives to discuss personal terms and will reportedly be willing to pay upwards of £88million for his signature when the bidding opens next summer.

Club chiefs are hoping that Bellingham will join to form a midfield trio with Aurelien Tchouameni and Edouardo Camavinga, who have been tipped to star for Los Blancos in the engine room on a long-term basis over the coming seasons. However, other reports have claimed that Bellingham is yet to make a final decision over his next club in spite of Real Madrid’s desire to speed up the process of agreeing contract terms.

Liverpool have also been credited with a desire to land the England midfielder for some time and tried to sign him as a youngster back in 2012, but his family decided that it would be better for him to keep playing at Birmingham City before eventually joining Dortmund in the summer of 2020. The man himself insisted last month that he is not yet considering the possibility of a move elsewhere, though, with his sights firmly set on continuing his development on an upward trajectory as things stand.

“I’m here to win for Borussia Dortmund and I’m very happy here at the minute,” Bellingham told reporters before scoring for Dortmund in last month’s defeat to Manchester City. “I’m focused on all of the goals we have as a team and I’m not looking past that.

“The club have done loads for me and made me feel very welcome since I first came and gave me the opportunities to develop even further. To look past that and into the future would be disrespectful. It’s not something I am thinking about, to be honest.”
