Arsenal ‘offered’ Wolves boss Nuno as Mikel Arteta alternative by superagent Jorge Mendes

Arsenal: Arteta on Holding’s improvement this season

Arsenal have been offered the chance to hire Nuno Espirito Santo as their manager to replace Mikel Arteta. The Portuguese coach is unhappy at Wolves after three years at the club and could leave due to tensions with the board.

Arsenal have been offered the chance to hire Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

It comes despite the upturn in form from the Gunners in recent weeks, though Mikel Arteta is not out of the woods yet.

A morale-boosting victory over Chelsea on Boxing Day has been followed by four wins on the trot as they prepare to take on Crystal Palace tonight at the Emirates.

But those games have came against West Brom, Brighton and Newcastle – all beneath them in the table.

There is no denying that the north London outfit have seen more fervour in their attack, largely down to the emergence of Emile Smith Rowe as a creative option in midfield.

However, Arsenal are still 11th and the start of the season has not been good enough after Arteta was given funds in the summer.

Despite the arrivals of the likes of Willian, Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhaes, Arsenal were handed shock defeats by the likes of Aston Villa, Burnley and Wolves.

The latter came about after a goals from Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence, but their manager is not happy at the club.

According to Todofichajes, Nuno has grown disillusioned with life at the Molineux as tensions with the board grow.

In particular, the transfer policy at the club has riled him and he is looking to leave.

His agent, Jorge Mendes, has close ties with Arsenal and has offered his services to the Gunners as a replacement for Arteta, should the club decide to sack him.

Offing Arteta would not cost the Gunners much, with his current deal expiring in 2023 with him on £70,000-a-week wages.

Nuno has been at Wolves for four years and has turned them from a Championship outfit into European perennials.

His side boasts a number of Portugal internationals that play attractive football and has earned many plaudits.

However, the former goalkeeper has been closely linked with a move to Valencia, where he was in charge for one season in 2014.

Todofichajes report that Mendes and club chief Peter Lim are in close contact, meaning Arsenal may have to act fast if they wanted to hire Nuno.
