Arsene Wenger’s swipe at Man City star over Angel Di Maria red card

Paris Saint-Germain star Angel Di Maria was sent off in the closing stages against Manchester City in the Champions League, but Arsene Wenger believes Pep Guardiola's side should have gone down to ten men as well.

The Argentine was dismissed with half an hour left in the game as PSG players struggled to cope with going 2-0 down to a Riyad Mahrez double.

The French champions collapsed and were unable to get a foot back in the tie despite dominating possession of the ball.

Mauricio Pochettino's players started losing their tempers late in the second leg, with four players receiving yellow cards to go with Di Maria's dismissal.

The winger was given his marching orders with half an hour to go in the game after stamping on Fernandinho's foot while trying to get the ball back for a throw-in.

City were revelling in their position in the game, with the Brazilian midfielder running the clock down at the time.

But Wenger believes Fernandinho should have joined Di Maria in the tunnel due to a number of fouls he committed.

Speaking to beIN Sports, the former Arsenal boss said: "We cannot ignore that they finished the two games with ten men.

"It's repeated as well, they've got to improve that discipline when things don't go well.

"It's an important part of top-level games.

"On the other hand, I must say I don't like Fernandinho, how he behaved tonight.

"It's provocative, if you send the player Di Maria off, you have to send Fernandinho off as well.

"He should have had yellow cards when he was provoking Di Maria, and the two of them should have gone off."
