Manchester United have suffered yet another blow in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho, it has been claimed. The Red Devils made multiple attempts to sign the Borussia Dortmund winger in the summer.
Their approaches, however, were repeatedly rejected by the Bundesliga giants – who wanted their £108million valuation of the player to be met.
United expected Dortmund to return to the negotiating table and lower their asking price before the closure of the transfer window.
It's understood they're still eager to acquire the 20-year-old's services and are weighing up tabling a bid for them in January.
Dortmund, however, have no intention of fielding any mid-season offers for the England international.
That's according toSport Bild , who claim allowing Sancho to leave the Signal Iduna Park Stadium mid-season is a prospect Dortmund are refusing to entertain.
United's failure to land Sancho was in large part down to the stubbornness of their executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward – who thought Dortmund would lower their demands for the Manchester City academy graduate.
And Red Devils legend Paul Scholes believes Woodward's reluctance to stump up the cash is another prime example of him not backing the club's managers in the transfer market.

“I don’t think he’s the first one who hasn’t been backed,” Scholes said during an interview with Stadium Astro.
“There’s been a lot of money spent but has it been spent on the first choices these managers want? I’m not too sure.
“I think [Louis] van Gaal and [Jose] Mourinho especially had a moan about that and it’s understandable when they aren’t getting the players they want.
“I think Ole’s been supported. I think Maguire at £80 million is a lot of money, [Bruno] Fernandes just in January has been an excellent signing and the form was good especially coming from Fernandes in January time you felt that this team was going places.”
Manchester United will be back in action on Saturday, travelling to St James' Park to take on Newcastle.
