Chelsea fans in disbelief after Kepa pulls off superb triple save in Villa win

Chelsea fans heaped praise onto Kepa Arrizabalaga after his match-winning performance against Aston Villa.

Kepa hasn't always been flavour of the month since joining the Blues from Athletic Bilbao for £71million in 2018. But the 28-year-old is fast-establishing himself as Graham Potter's no.1 between the sticks, helped by another hugely impressive display at Villa Park.

The 6ft 1in stopper had to be at his very best as the Blues picked up all three points in the Midlands, with his triple save in the second half earning him rave reviews online. First, Kepa got down to his right to deny John McGinn's fierce drive from outside the box.

He then got straight back to his feet to tip Jacob Ramsey's follow-up onto the post before completing a hat-trick of superb stops by denying Danny Ings at his near post.

Kepa's performance provided the cornerstone of Chelsea's win as a Mason Mount double gave them all three points against Steven Gerrard's side.

Blues fans on social media were quick to praise the goalkeeper who looked to be heading out of the Stamford Bridge exit door in the summer.

"Kepa has just cemented his place as Chelsea’s number 1. What a turnaround for him man, so happy for him," wrote one. As someone else said: "Kepa Arrizabalaga Chelsea revival Unreal 10/10 performance from him today. Not a flop anymore."

A third person added: "Kepa finally justifying his price tag after years of being a flop… There’s still hope." While a fourth commented: "I told you all don't doubt him. Don't worry about his playing time. He has become our #1 goalkeeper for Chelsea."

Potter was also full of praise for his goalkeeper after the match. He said: "It was a world-class performance, especially in the first half. We needed Kepa at that point and he made some fantastic saves.

"I'm really pleased for him, he has had a tough period for us at times but he contributed to the game. Kepa has found a fantastic level today. Made some brilliant saves that have kept us in the game and allowed us to win the points so really pleased for him."
