Chelsea have another trick up their sleeve as they look to sign Jules Kounde this summer. Kurt Zouma was mooted for a swap transfer but would prefer a move to West Ham while a deal is not dead in the water.

Chelsea’s transfer for Kounde is not over yet despite concerns over Zouma’s preference in the transfer window.

Sevilla are digging their heels over a transfer and had demanded more money during negotiations.

As well as offering Zouma for the 22-year-old, the Blues had also offered £30m on top of the defender.

But the Spanish side want nearly £15m more – while West Ham also present further complications.

The Hammers are also eyeing Zouma, who is valued at £30m at Stamford Bridge, and are willing to pay £20m.

And while that is unlikely to be accepted by Chelsea, the 26-year-old would prefer to stay in London and move to West Ham over Sevilla.

But according to the Guardian, that is unlikely to deter the Blues – who are prepared to swap Emerson Palmieri instead.

While Sevilla are known as tough negotiators, their financial situation means they cannot demand the full £68m release clause that Kounde is worth.

Emerson could be a potential solution to Chelsea’s problems during the transfer talks.

But the Italian is not worth anywhere near to what Zouma is in the market while a centre-back would be preferred by the La Liga club if they are losing their best defender.

Thomas Tuchel remains hellbent on bringing Kounde to Stamford Bridge this season after a fine campaign.

Many have noted the France international’s brilliant defensive capabilities, his passing from deep and his rapid speed.

The youngster has been linked with several clubs over the summer, including Tottenham, Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Chelsea have made just one signing so far in the transfer window, landing Marcus Bettinelli on a free transfer to act as the club’s third goalkeeper.
