Chelsea in contract talks with Lukaku – but Man City ‘offering higher salary’

Chelsea are speaking to Romelu Lukaku but could see their efforts spurned by Manchester City.

It comes after Thomas Tuchel made a striker his biggest wish going into the summer transfer window.

It has been a remarkable start to the German's career at Stamford Bridge, who has won the Champions League in five months in charge.

But the squad is not completely to his liking, who will have problems up front next season with several changes planned.

Olivier Giroud looks set to leave when his contract expires, with AC Milan interested, while Tammy Abraham is eyeing a departure after falling down the pecking order.

Timo Werner has also had his plight in front of goal while an out-and-out forward could be brought in.

According to Eurosport, Chelsea are already in contact with Lukaku and his representatives as they make the Inter Milan star their top target.

The Belgium international has been sensational this season, scoring 24 times in Serie A to catapult Inter to a league title.

Antonio Conte left the club over the summer, leaving Lukaku's position in doubt with the 28-year-old bonding well with the Italian.

Inter are also in a position where they are looking to sell players in order to balance the books after a tough financial year.

However, City could spurn Chelsea's attempts to sign Lukaku by offering him more money, Eurosport report.

Pep Guardiola is also on the lookout for a striker and sees the ex-Manchester United ace as an ideal candidate.

Sergio Aguero will leave for Barcelona this summer while Gabriel Jesus' future is also up in the air.

It is reported that Lukaku's camp are already in discussions with the Blues over a prospective contract offer.

However, they have told Chelsea that City are prepared to pay the Belgian more – which could spell danger for the west London outfit.

Other targets on Tuchel's wishlist include Harry Kane and Erling Haaland but they are out of the club's price range.

Adama Traore has been named as a surprise inclusion, with the Blues looking to bolster their attacking options.
