Chelsea’s bench was battered with abuse on social media as well as Sky Sports’ commentary for not braving the cold at Anfield.
Substitutes on the Blues bench were spotted becoming frozen in the stands during the Premier League game with Liverpool.
As a result, a member of Chelsea’s staff came to their aid by passing round blankets to the seemingly helpless stars.
Marcos Alonso and Kai Havertz were among those to take one to keep them warm on Merseyside.
Commentator Martin Tyler, 75, spotted the footage and said: “What’s happening to footballers these days? It’s a little bit chilly.”
Liverpool legend and pundit Jamie Carragher replied: “Don’t like it up north!”
Football fans on Twitter were less than impressed too as they wondered why the Chelsea players didn’t just go for a warm up on the touchline instead.
One put: “Surely I haven’t just seen blankets been handed out on the Chelsea bench.”
Another added: “Chelsea subs get blankets given to them to get covered up on the bench. What happened to having a run?”
“Have i just seen the Chelsea bench with blankets wrapped round them. Football is soft,” a third said.
A fourth posted: “The Chelsea bench getting blankets is becoming a meme.”
And a final fan added: “Chelsea bench getting wrapped up like F1 tyres there! welcome to the north!”
