Ben Chilwell has handed Chelsea a nightmare injury blow after going off injured against West Ham.

There is now concern over the seriousness of the problem after appearing to twist his ankle just minutes into the game.

Chilwell was involved in a challenge with Jarrod Bowen but landed awkwardly on his foot and stayed down.

The young England international had initially tried to carry on but after just two minutes, collapsed back to the deck and admitted defeat on the problem.

Chelsea will now hope that there is not serious ligament damage which could rule one of their most important players out for a prolonged period.

Despite Chilwell's problem, Chelsea responded on the pitch immediately, as Thiago Silva emphatically headed home Mason Mount's corner to give them the lead just minutes into the match.

Unlike their Premier League rivals, Chelsea have managed to avoid serious injuries so far this season.

Hakim Ziyech is currently sidelined, but expected back shortly, while Reece James is thought to be fit to come back to Boxing Day.
