Cristiano Ronaldo is understood to have handed in a transfer request at Juventus as he seeks a move away from the Serie A club. Manchester City looks set to be his destination as he puts aside his previous ties to rivals United.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Man City looks to have taken another step to becoming a reality after he reportedly handed in a transfer request at Juventus.

The Portugal international is looking to leave the Serie A side.

And Juve are just waiting for an official bid to arrive from City before they get the ball rolling on a blockbuster move for Ronaldo.

That is all according to Fabrizio Romano, who appears to suggest that the wheels are already turning on a possible deal between Ronaldo and City.

Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is currently in discussions with City about his contract, Romano is also reporting.

It was earlier claimed that the Sky Blues were willing to offer the 36-year-old a two-year deal that would see him become the best-paid player at the club.

Romano also reported late on Thursday night that Ronaldo’s arrival could trigger a move for Raheem Sterling if City receive the right offer.

Meanwhile, United legend Wayne Rooney insisted on Thursday that he remains doubtful that Ronaldo will join City.

“I don’t know what to make of it, to be honest,” Derby County boss Rooney told a media conference on Thursday.

“If you’re asking me if I think it’s possible then I’d say I have major doubts that it’s a possibility. He has a great legacy at Manchester United and I don’t think he would go somewhere for financial reasons.

“I’m not sure that’s going to happen. I think he has more chance of going to Paris Saint-Germain or staying with Juventus. But on the other hand, it’s football, anything can happen.

“It has happened before. Some big legends from Manchester United have gone to City. Peter Schmeichel went to City, Andy Cole, [and] Mark Hughes managed City, so it has happened before.

“But I think someone of Cristiano’s stature… I can’t see it happening.”
