David Beckham accused of ‘begging for a knighthood’ in tribute to Queen

David Beckham has been accused of 'begging' the Queen for a knighthood.

The former Manchester United winger – who received an OBE in 2003 – took to Instagram to post a tribute to the Queen ahead of her Platinum Jubilee. Along with an assortment of photos of Her Majesty, he wrote in a social media post to his 73.8million followers: “Today, we celebrate our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. 70 years of service and inspirational leadership of our country. Let’s come together and commemorate her remarkable reign with a great British party these next few days.”

But the post has not gone down well with some commentators, who believe that the Inter Miami owner, 47, has an ulterior motive to his poignant post – earning a knighthood.

One quipped: "Still after that Knighthood Becks?"

Another said: "She ain't gonna Knight you mate.”

A third joked: “Beckham wants a knighthood more than I want a sh**.”

One scorned: “David Beckham being a raging royalist and sucking up to the queen to angle for a knighthood is really proving my theory that everyone i have ever found attractive is a bit of a t***.”

Beckham was also beamed onto Buckingham Palace to deliver a video message. He was one of the many famous faces who paid tribute to the monarch as part of the BBC’s Party at the Palace celebrations.

Golden Balls said in his message: “For 70 years you have worked so incredibly hard, not just for the people of this country but also for the whole commonwealth."

"Thank you ma'am for your dedication, your service and for everything that you represent. Our country owes you so much."

Indeed, Beckham already has an OBE to his name, but it is believed that part of the reason he is yet to receive a knighthood was his reported involvement in a tax relief scheme. Meanwhile, in 2017 leaked emails showed that the star was enraged over the decision not to feature him in that year’s honour list.

The former Preston North End loanee is alleged to have blasted the committee "unappreciative c***s"" upon finding out that he had been omitted.
