Jesse Lingard came off of the bench to break the hearts of West Ham fans on Sunday afternoon – and Hammers' manager David Moyes has revealed what he said to his former loanee.
United continued their unbeaten start to the season thanks to an 89th-minute stunner from Lingard to win 2-1, but the Englishman’s celebrations were muted against the club he played 16 games for last season.
Said Benrahma put the Hammers ahead in the 30th minute when the Algerian’s strike ricocheted off of defender Raphael Varane and in having wrong-footed David De Gea.
Five minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo equalised after following in his strike that was initially saved by Lukasz Fabianski.
In the very last minute, after Lingard’s strike, West Ham were awarded a 95th-minute penalty. The usually-reliable Mark Noble entered the fray especially to take the spot-kick but saw his effort well saved by De Gea.
It was heartbreak for West Ham fans as they watched the player they fell in love with last season score the all-important goal, and their manager spoke to the 28-year-old after full time.
Moyes said: “I was laughing but more importantly, I said how well he recovered from his mistake in midweek; he makes a mistake which probably cost Manchester United a first win in the Champions League.

"But that's what football does, you always get a second chance in football to bounce back."
Last Tuesday, United lost 2-1 to Swiss side BSC Young Boys after Theoson Jordan Siebatcheu came off of the bench to score a 95th-minute winner.
The assist for the said goal came from Lingard, whose misjudged back pass was straight into the path of the American forward, leaving him with the simple task of firing past the onrushing De Gea.
Moyes continued: “Jesse got a second chance to bounce back as a player when he was at West Ham last year so we'll always be grateful, for what he did for us.

"I wish he hadn't scored but we had a chance to get a draw out of it and we missed our chance."
At West Ham, Lingard scored nine goals and assisted four as he helped the Hammers to Europa League football.
Many thought that the versatile forward, whose contract runs out at Old Trafford next year, would push for a move to the London club permanently but instead, he looks more likely to sign a contract extension at his boyhood club according to numerous reports.
