Kevin de Bruyne produced a nod to incoming Manchester City star Erling Haaland after scoring an incredible 25-minute hat-trick on Wednesday night as Manchester City stormed to a 3-1 lead over Wolves.
The Belgian midfielder was in sublime form for the trip to Molineux, and scored all three goals with his left foot. Eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice that he copied Haaland's trademark meditating celebration.
City announced on Tuesday they had completed a deal to sign the Borussia Dortmund wonderkid for £51million, meaning the striker tipped to win the Ballon d'Or will be playing alongside De Bruyne next year.
Pep Guardiola's side went into the game knowing seven points from their final three games would see them crowned Premier League champions, regardless of what Liverpool do in their final games. Their comfortable lead at the top didn't stop City from coming out of the blocks immediately in the midlands.
De Bruyne's first-half hat-trick was his first treble for City, and went a long way towards cementing the Citizens' status as league leaders going into the final two games of the campaign. The performance at Wolves capped off a brilliant week for City, following the announcement that Haaland had signed.
The Norwegian striker has bagged 28 goals in just 29 games for Dortmund this season across all competitions, and De Bruyne is clearly looking forward to his arrival. As he ran over to the City fans holding out the number three on his fingers, De Bruyne stopped in his tracks before putting his arms out wide and acting as if he was meditating.
That celebration is a very obvious nod to Haaland's iconic celebration Bundesliga defenders have grown all-too accustomed to seeing in recent years. Speaking back in 2020, the striker admitted the reason behind his celebration was his love of meditating.
He said: "I really enjoy meditation. "It makes feel calm and gives me tranquillity. This is why I sometimes celebrate like that when I score."
