Steven Gerrard could persuade Dele Alli to escape his Tottenham nightmare and join Rangers in January, according to former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy.
Alli has been frozen out by Jose Mourinho at Spurs this season, not starting a Premier League match since their opening 1-0 defeat at home to Everton – wherein he was hooked off at half-time.
His five-minute cameo off the bench away at Crystal Palace on Sunday was only his third league outing of the season, meaning a loan move in January would surely make sense for all parties.
And Murphy believes former team-mate Gerrard could lure the 24-year-old to Rangers in the new year.
“I’m not sure Dele would be up for it, but I thought maybe Stevie G at Rangers could persuade him to go there and win him the title,” he said on talkSPORT.
“He'd play every week, score a lot of goals, get his confidence up and impress Gareth Southgate.
“There is an argument to say would that be enough scoring at that level, because it is a drop down. But I don't know.
“Maybe playing under Stevie is something that he would enjoy.”
If Gers do set their sights on a January loan move for Alli, it is likely they will face competition from Everton.
According to The Mirror, Carlo Ancelotti is desperate to bring either Alli or fellow Spurs outcast Harry Winks to Goodison Park on loan next month.

Ancelotti is said to be an admirer of both players despite their lack of first-team action under Mourinho this season.
Paris St-Germain also tried to get their hands on Alli in the previous summer and autumn transfer window, coming up short with three loan offers for the midfielder, and could come back in for him in the new year.
