Manchester United secured their first transfer of the summer last week when they signed Donny van de Beek from Ajax in a deal worth around £35m plus £5m in add-ons.
Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho is the club's top transfer target this summer but talks appear to have stalled, with the Bundesliga side holding out for a fee of £108m.
United seem unwilling to pay Dortmund's asking price but, despite shelling out nearly £40m for Van de Beek, they could still complete a swoop for Sancho.
The likes of Jack Grealish and James Maddison were also targets for the club and would have filled the same role as Van de Beek.
However, Grealish is Aston Villa's captain and Maddison recently signed a new deal, meaning either player would have cost upwards of £80m.
It was well-known that Van de Beek had an agreement in place with Ajax which would see him leave this summer and his lower asking price made him the one United ended up signing.
The Manchester Evening News report that United are looking to make two more signings this window and the fact that Van de Beek was signed for a good price means they have more funds to play with than they otherwise would have if they had gone after a different target.

Man Utd told Liverpool battle for Jadon Sancho awaits in major Woodward dilemma
The Sancho deal remains a complex one to complete but, with a number of outgoings expected, the signing may yet be completed.
United have been warned that if they do not pay Dortmund's asking price this summer then, once other clubs recover from the financial effects of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, they will face stiff competition for Sancho's signature next summer.
Speaking to the Mirror, Jamie Carragher said: "United have got a clear run at Sancho now – but that will change if he’s still at Dortmund next year.
"I’d be very surprised if Liverpool didn’t try to sign him next summer. That’s why I think United will pay what they have got to pay.
"When United have paid big fees for players in the past we’ve all laughed and said, 'they’ve been done again'. People called Woodward a joke – selling clubs could always get an extra £10m or £20m from him.
"Now Borussia Dortmund have asked £108m for Sancho. And because United haven’t paid it straight away everyone is criticising them.
"Woodward is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t."
