Edouard Mendy to Chelsea ‘almost done’ with fee agreed and medical completed

Edouard Mendy’s £23million move to Chelsea is “almost done” after the Rennes goalkeeper completed his medical in west London over the weekend.

Mendy, 28, did not train on Friday morning after holding talks with Rennes officials over his potential exit.

Later that day the French club accepted an initial £18million fee for the Senegal shot-stopper, which could eventually rise to £23million through add-ons.

He was then granted permission to fly to London and undergo his medical over the weekend, having already agreed personal terms with the Blues.

And according to The Athletic, Mendy’s proposed switch to Chelsea is “almost done”.

The goalkeeper is set to become Frank Lampard’s eighth signing of the summer, following the likes of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in at Stamford Bridge.

Yet reports suggest Chelsea are not finished there, despite already spending close to £250million.

It is believed the west London club are also eyeing up a move for West Ham star Declan Rice, who previously played for the club’s academy.

Rice is reportedly valued at around £75million by the Hammers, but Chelsea are not prepared to meet their asking price.

Speaking of their excessive summer spending earlier this week, Lampard said: “It changes the landscape, yes, but I am excited by that as much as feeling the pressure. I understand the different nature of the pressure coming this year.

“It is why I love doing it. I didn't come into this job to fight for fourth place, although I know last year that it was an achievement.

“I didn't come in to just bring Academy players into the first-team and say I gave debuts to this many players, I came here to win.

“I know expectations will be there. I won't hide away from that. My expectations are on a different level from last year.
