The calls for Mesut Ozil to be reinstated to the Arsenal first-team are getting louder with every week that passes.
With every fresh defeat, every deflating performance, and as the Gunners' need for a creative influence borders upon desperation, Ozil's stock is only rising.
Though it seems the German is still not even registering on the periphery of those he needs to persuade for a chance at a final swansong.
Ozil has continually insisted he is happy to sit it out at Arsenal until his contract expires, in the hope that those in charge eventually bow to public pressure and bring him back into the fold.
But he may well be considering his options after Edu's latest comments.
As when asked whether the Gunners will be looking to strengthen when the transfer market reopens next month, Arsenal's technical director pretty much pulled the curtain down on Ozil's time at the Emirates – either that or he'd just forgotten that he still existed.
"It’s quite clear what we need,” Edu said. “We need a player with creativity in the middle, we don’t have that in the squad right now."
In literal terms Edu wasn't actually wrong, given Ozil is not currently a registered member of Arsenal's 25-man squad, but even so it does not bode well for the 31-year-old.

Arsenal can review their list in January, which is then re-submitted to the Premier League as well as UEFA for the Europa League knockout stages, but it appears they would rather have anyone other than Ozil on it.
Red Bull Salzburg star Dominik Szoboszlai was Arsenal's primary target to add some much-needed flair, but he looks set to become the latest star to tread the well-worn path to RB Leipzig.
That forces Arsenal to seek out other alternatives, but it appears as far as both Edu and Mikel Arteta are concerned, Ozil's Arsenal career is as good as over.

Even when offering the faintest glimmer of hope to Ozil last week, Arteta chose his words very carefully.
"He’s not in the squad right now. I’m focusing just on the players we have here," he said.
"But, whatever happens in January, we have some time to decide."
Or in as many other words: if all else fails, Ozil is very much just a last-ditch solution.
