Toffees boss Rafa Benitez wants a reunion with the Venezuelan – who he signed for Newcastle and Dalian – and it is hoped a deal can be struck before Tuesday’s deadline.

Benitez sees the 31-year-old as back-up to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and trusts the frontman given their previous relationship.
Indeed, Newcastle’s refusal to sign Rondon on a permanent deal played a part in the Spaniard quitting St James’ Park in 2019.
Rondon had scored 12 times during a loan spell from West Brom and became a fan favourite on Tyneside.

Instead, the forward followed Benitez to China to join Dalian.
Rondon spent the second half of last season on loan with CSKA Moscow, scoring four goals in 10 games as well as providing two assists.
Reports earlier this month suggested Rondon’s contract with Dalian Yifang could be terminated due to financial issues at the Chinese club.
