The Everton player arrested on suspicion of child sex offences back in July has had his bail extended.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed to the Daily Star Sport the footballer has had their bail prolonged until January 16, 2022.

The unnamed Toffees man was originally arrested back on Friday, July 16.

And they have been on police bail since July 23, with no further updates learned until now.

Back in July, just a few weeks after Rafa Benitez had taken over as manager of Everton, the club released a statement.

It read: "Everton can confirm it has suspended a player pending a police investigation.

"The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time."

The allegations came as a huge blow to Everton ahead of the new season.

And the news sent shockwaves throughout the football community, and certainly among Premier League players, staff and fans.

The player does, though, remain suspended by Everton, but still cannot be named for legal reasons.

Everton had no further comment to make to Daily Star Sport after the player's bail was extended.
