‘Jude Bellingham completely outclassed Enzo’: Fans on social media taunt Chelsea’s record signing for his display at Borussia Dortmund after England star came out on top in Champions League last-16 first-leg tie

  • Social media has taunted the performance of  Enzo Fernandez against Dortmund
  • The Argentinian midfielder was at fault for Borussia Dortmund’s winning goal
  • Fans joked as Dortmund star Jude Bellingham ‘outclassed’ Fernandez

Chelsea fans taunted in the build-up to Wednesday’s Champions League trip to face Borussia Dortmund that their club record signing Enzo Fernandez was going to teach Jude Bellingham a lesson in football.

Even the club’s official website posted a story comparing the two midfield stars and put them head-to-head prior to their on-pitch battle at the Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund and Bellingham came out on top in that matchup as the German giants secured an impressive 1-0 victory over their struggling Premier League visitors as 21-year-old Karim Adeyemi scored the game’s only goal.

Argentina World Cup winning midfielder Fernandez was largely at fault for the goal as marking the last line of defence backed off the Dortmund striker who eventually breezed past and through on goal to score.

Bellingham, an international star with England, more than played his part in Dortmund’s victorious showing as he dominated the midfield battle up against Fernandez.

Social media was quick to highlight the errors in Fernandez’s schoolboy defending that led to the goal with many laughing at previous comparisons with Bellingham.

One quick-witted commenter kept things simple by simply writing: ‘Jude Bellingham completely outclassed Enzo lol’.

Fernandez achieved a better pass accuracy rate 90.4% and had three more efforts on goal than his English counterpart, but it was Bellingham’s ability to break up play and get his side on the front-foot that really got Twitter talking.

Another post joked: ‘Bellingham is making Fernandez look like a carpenter today’ as some overdramatised the differing performances of the two international midfield stars.

While another added: ‘Chelsea fans tried protesting all weeks saying ‘Enzo is clear of Bellingham’ of course back tracking to when they rated him just for him to drop a masterclass on Enzo head’.

Others made fun of Fernandez and suggested a possible name change to ‘Fraudnandez’ as the Chelsea man failed to show why the club had broke the bank to land him from Benfica.

Speaking after the game, Dortmund captain for the night Bellingham praised his side’s defensive capabilities, telling BT Sport: ‘It was good. We dominated the first half. They had chances but we were in control for the majority of the first half.

‘In the second half we took the foot off the gas and they had more control. We showed how well we can defend and see out games.’
