Ferdinand suggests Pogba may be considering Man Utd future after latest snub

Rio Ferdinand believes Paul Pogba will be questioning his role in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side after he was benched for Manchester United's game against Everton.

United and Solskjaer are under huge pressure to get a result against the Toffees after losing their last two games in a row against Arsenal and Istanbul Başakşehir.

Anything other than a win would leave them mired near the bottom of the Premier League table, and with Mauricio Pochettino lurking in the shadows Solskjaer knows he has to turn his side's form around quickly if he is to keep his job.

Pogba was unimpressive in the defeat to the Gunners, conceding a penalty and attracting heavy criticism for his all-round performance.

After being left on the bench against Istanbul he was also named as a substitute against Everton, and speaking to BT Sport ahead of the game Ferdinand stated his belief that Pogba will be far from happy with the decision.

"If I’m sitting there and I’m Paul Pogba I’m going, ‘well, I’m not in his best team’," Ferdinand said.

"He (Solskjaer) needs to pull out a result, he’s under immense pressure today and I’m on the bench.

"What does that say to the likes of Paul Pogba? That’s why if I’m Pogba I’m sitting there going, ‘well, where do I lie in his plans?’

"But I think for Ole, that two in front of the back four are his insurance policy, that’s how he sees them now.

"That front four have got to go out and produce. (Marcus) Rashford, Bruno (Fernandes), creating changes, taking chances, that’s what he needs them to do today."

United recently activated a clause in Pogba's contract which has seen it extended to the summer of 2022, but the 27-year-old has regularly been linked with a move to the likes of Juventus and Real Madrid.

It remains to be seen if he can force his way back into the starting line-up, but it certainly seems Solskjaer does not fully trust him at the moment.
