Fernandes poised to ‘double Man Utd wages’ with six team-mates ahead of him

Bruno Fernandes looks set to double his wages at Manchester United – though he would be some way off the highest earner at the club.

It comes after an incredible year at Old Trafford, where he has proved a transformative signing.

After joining from Sporting Lisbon for a fee of up to £67m in January 2020, Fernandes has taken United to the next level.

Initially floundering in the Premier League prior to the midfielder's arrival, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been dependent on the 26-year-old ever since.

His impact saw the Red Devils shoot into a Champions League spot – while his efforts have seen that repeated this season.

The Portugal international has scored more goals than anyone else in the Premier League since his arrival at Old Trafford.

In those 40 league appearances, that includes 40 goal involvements – 23 goals and 17 assists – more than any other United player ever in Premier League history in that timeframe.

And the club are keen to reward him with a new contract, according to The Sun.

His current wages see him take home £100,000 a week, which is strikingly low for a player of his stature at United.

For comparison, the highest earner at the club is David de Gea – who is on close to £375,000-a-week.

The Sun report that a new bumper deal for Fernandes will see him double his money to £200,000-a-week.

That contract will also include a number of incentives based on appearances, goals and trophies.

This would take him close to Marcus Rashford, who was handed a new deal last summer after taking the mantle as United's main striker.

Fernandes is currently the seventh highest-paid player at Old Trafford, with De Gea and Rashford ahead of him.
