France manager Deschamps left bandaged with injury sustained in World Cup final

France manager Didier Deschamps has had his thumb bandaged up after suffering an injury in the World Cup final pitch side.

Among all the chaos on what has been a breathless final between France and Argentina, it appears that Deschamps might have got caught up in the madness. The French boss emerged for the second-half with a bandage around his right-hand thumb.

It might not be a surprise after what was a shocking first-half from the World Cup holders, who went 2-0 down after a miserable opening 45 minutes.

Lionel Messi and Angel di Maria netted while Deschamps made a double change with Olivier Giroud and Ousmane Dembele coming off.

And whatever happened at half-time, it might be fair to say that the 54-year-old was anything but happy. While it has yet to be confirmed if the France coach blew his top, he emerged for the second half with a bandaged thumb – a few hairdryers maybe?

It has seemed to work, though, largely down to the his subs and the brilliance of Kylian Mbappe. First, Randal Kolo Muani won a penalty that was converted by the Paris Saint-Germain star before the 23-year-old's breathtaking strike made it 2-2 – all in the space of 100 seconds.

As the game stretched on for the final 15 minutes, including injury-time, Les Bleus looked the more likely to score – causing panic in the Argentina defence every time they marauded forward.

Their gameplay could not have been more different from the first-half, where they looked ponderous and lacking any bite compared to the South Americans – who looked right up for the fight.

But that all changed as the contest went on as Argentina suddenly could not cope with the added physicality brought to the match by the French.
