Frank Lampard provides update on Willian’s future as Chelsea contract nears end

Frank Lampard admits he does not know whether Willian will still be at Stamford Bridge next season but insists the ball is in the player's court.

The Brazilian forward missed Saturday's FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal due to injury and must now decide whether he has made his last appearance in a Chelsea shirt.

Willian requested a new three-year deal in order for him to stay put at the club, but Chelsea are seemingly not willing to break their model for players over 30.

The Blues are believed to have offered a two-year contract to Willian – who turns 32 next weekend – which may not be enough to keep hold of the star.

"I know the situation from the club’s end," Lampard said. "But it is his decision and I have not got that answer so I actually do not know what that decision is."

Willian's agent Kia Joorabchian revealed the player has five offers on the table, including two from Spain and one from MLS.

The other two are from English clubs, one of whom is thought to be Chelsea, while Tottenham and Arsenal have both also been linked with his signature.

Willian has made no secret of his desire to stay in London, but whether he chooses to move to a direct rival of the club where he has spent the last six years remains to be seen.

“It is his choice and I respect his choice," Lampard added. "He has been a great servant for Chelsea if he decides to move on.

"And if he does decide to move on then Chelsea moves on as well and we have to look forward ourselves."

Regardless of Willian's advancing years, losing the player would be a blow to Chelsea and Lampard.

This season he has made a total of 47 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 11 times and providing eight assists.

Chelsea still have at least one match remaining against Bayern Munich on Saturday, with Willian's contract set to expire at the end of their season.

Barcelona and Inter Miami are two of the clubs also linked with a free transfer.
