Thiago Silva has revealed Frank Lampard sent him an image of them together when they captained their countries in a friendly match in 2013 in a text message as he was sealing a move to Chelsea.
Silva was a free agent in the summer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea moved quickly to sign the experienced central defender after conceding 54 goals last season.
And aside from a slip-up against West Brom, Silva has been virtually faultless, bringing calmness and security to what was a leaky defence.
This week, Silva has linked up with the Brazilian national team for their World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Uruguay.
Speaking back in his homeland, the 36-year-old, who could make his 92nd appearance for his country, opened up about his time at Chelsea so far.
And Silva says Lampard sent him an image from seven years ago of the pair greeting each other before a friendly between Brazil and England at the Maracana.
“When I was about to sign with Chelsea, when I said ok, [Lampard] sent me a message with a photo of us shaking hands as captains at the Maracana, in the friendly between Brazil and England.
