Gary Neville says he is “pretty certain” Manchester United and Chelsea will not win the Premier League this season – but admits they have both improved massively in recent months.
United saw a meteoric rise at the back end of the last season following the addition of Bruno Fernandes, and many are expecting them to only get better under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Meanwhile, Frank Lampard’s Chelsea have splurged a huge £200m this summer on boosting their squad, and are now seen as outside contenders for the title.
However, Neville thinks fans should be realistic and remember how far behind Manchester City and Liverpool they still are.
“What I would say about Chelsea this season is there’s an element of we don’t know quite what they’re going to do,” said the Sky Sports pundit.
“I don’t think they can win the league irrespective of whether they get a goalkeeper or not.
“But if you said to me about Manchester United, for instance, I feel Manchester United will not win the league, I think that’s pretty certain.
“I can predict pretty much what they’ll do. They will improve, they’ll get closer to Liverpool and Manchester City, I think they will finish in the top four.
“If you had to predict Chelsea I’d say out of them and United which one could win the league it could be Chelsea because you just don’t know what those young players are going to do.
“If they go and do that they could really surprise everybody but there’s also a chance they could go the other way.
