Gerard Deulofeu in talks to join Watford’s sister club Udinese as Hornets star’s move to Fiorentina falls through after La Viola sign Jose Callejon on a free transfer

Gerard Deulofeu is in talks join Watford’s sister club Udinese after talks over a deal with Fiorentina fell through. 

The Hornets star, 26, has been linked with an exit from Vicarage Road this summer following the club’s relegation from the Premier League. 

Deulofeu was a reported target of Fiorentina, but a deal to join La Viola has fallen through after the club opted to sign former Real Madrid star Jose Callejon on a free transfer.

He was lined up by Fiorentina to replace Federico Chiesa but they have signed Jose Callejon

Fiorentina had lined Deulofeu up as a possible replacement for Federico Chiesa, who has left the club to join Juventus, but have opted to go in a different direction.  

The Spaniard is now in talks with Udinese, the sister club of Watford, over a move to Serie A. 

Watford and Udinese are owned by the Pozzo family, with Giampaola Pozza the owner of the Italian club, while his son, Gino, owns the English side.

The relationship between the two clubs has seen a host of players swap Italy for England, and vice versa, with Deulofeu seemingly the next in line to hop between clubs. 

The 26-year-old has flourished at Vicarage Road since joining from Barcelona in 2018. The Spaniard has scored 17 goals and provided 11 assists in 70 outings for the Hornets. 

Deulofeu had settled in Hertfordshire after spells at Everton, Barcelona, Sevilla and AC Milan, but could be making a return to Italy.
