Goalkeeper smashes opponent with somersault cannonball ‘straight out of WWE’

A jaw-dropping clip of a goalkeeper smashing his opponent with a somersault straight out of WWE has sent fans wild.

New footage emerged on social media of the hilarious moment where a goalkeeper in the Ethiopian Premier League completely lost his head. In a match between Saint George FC and Bahir Dar Kenema FC, the away team's keeper, Harriston Hessou, looked shaky as he rushed out of his box to claim a loose ball.

Hessou patted it into the ground, which in turn sent the ball bouncing. But not content with merely picking it up, he then proceeded to launch a stunning forward somersault in the air.

The opposition forward – clearly not expecting the shot-stopper to do his best impression of WWE superstar Kevin Owens' famous cannonball attack – was caught like a deer in headlights as the keeper flew towards him.

He was caught by both studs and theatrically fell to the ground as the referee pointed to the spot not long after half-time. Staggeringly, the culprit Hessou was not sent off for the brutal double-kick combo.

To add to the comical scenes, the striker went on to completely botch his spot-kick by tamely dragging it wide of the goal. The game ended 2-2 last month, with St George going on to be crowned champions.

Fans were left both stunned and in tears of laughter in equal measure after the clip went viral on Twitter. They jokingly claimed the goalkeeper had done nothing wrong, with one fan tweeting: "Eyes on the ball, got the ball first. I think it's fair play. Striker is looking for a foul there."

A second wrote: "Don't see anything wrong here. Got to protect yourself when you come for the ball…"

Another posted a gif of a character from the famous Street Fighter video game series, while another user compared the manoeuvre to those seen on WWE, saying: "WWE SIGN HIM UP!!!"
