Guardiola spotted chatting with Lewandowski as Man City continue striker hunt

Pep Guardiola has been pictured chatting with Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski as Manchester City continue to look for a new centre forward.

The Polish forward was strongly linked with a move to City in the summer after reports emerged claiming that he wants a fresh challenge before he turns 34 in August next year.

However, a move to the Etihad Stadium in the summer failed to materialise as City also missed out on signing other targets Harry Kane and Cristiano Ronaldo.

As a result, the club have so far been unable to replace Sergio Aguero after the Argentinian moved to Barcelona in the summer.

Guardiola was photographed speaking to his former player Lewandowski at the training ground of Spanish second division side Girona in Catalonia.

Lewandowski and his Poland teammates are currently training in the city as they prepare for a World Cup qualifier against Andorra on Friday night.

Girona are one of City's sister clubs and are a member of the City Football Group which owns nine clubs around the world, with City as the flagship team.

In addition, Guardiola's brother Pere also has a stake in Girona, who last played in the top flight during the 2018/19 season.

Lewandowski was signed by Guardiola while he was Bayern manager, joining the club in 2014, and scored 67 goals in 100 appearances under the Spaniard.

In his seven years with the club, Lewandowski has scored a total of 317 goals in 346 appearances across all competitions and won his ninth league title last term.

He is amongst the favourites for this year's Ballon d'Or after missing out on the award when it was cancelled last year.

However, he was named the player of the year by both UEFA and FIFA as a reward for winning the treble with Bayern during the 2019/20 season.

City could turn to Lewandowski next summer to solve their striker woes after they failed to bring a centre forward in during the summer, with him having already scored 23 goals this season.

The Premier League champions had attempted to sign Kane from Tottenham Hotspur but were unwilling to meet the club's £150million asking price for the England captain.

They had looked close to signing Ronaldo from Juventus late in the window, though, before rivals Manchester United hijacked the deal to bring the Portuguese forward back to Old Trafford.
