Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected to return for AC Milan against Manchester United on Thursday in a bid to dump them out of the Europa League.

The Swedish superstar missed the Last 16, first leg clash at Old Trafford last week due to a thigh problem.

He was also expected to miss the return clash at the San Siro, but is winning his battle to be fit in time and is desperate to face Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men.

Solskjaer had been planning not to have to contend with the veteran striker – and his rapid return will provide the United boss with a huge headache as he looks to keep his European dream alive.

With the tie poised at 1-1, having Ibrahimovic back in the fold will also be a massive boost for the Italian giants.

Ibrahimovic, who has also announced he is coming out of international retirement and will be part of the Swedish squad at this summer's Euros, joined United on a free transfer in 2016 after leaving Paris Saint Germain.

He spent two seasons at Old Trafford and became a cult figure with fans after scoring 29 goals in 53 appearances and helping United win both the EFL Cup and Europa League in 2017.

Ibrahimovic left United to join LA Galaxy in March 2018 – and announced his arrival by taking out a full page advert in the LA Times.

He returned to Milan in December 2019 for his second stint at the San Siro and despite turning 40 later this year, has plundered 16 goals in 21 appearances this season to prove he is still a major force to be reckoned with.

Solskjaer, meanwhile, faces the dilemma of which goalkeeper to pick for the showdown in Milan.

Dean Henderson has deputised for David De Gea in recent weeks after the Spanish No.1 returned to his homeland for the birth of his first child.

But De Gea is back in Manchester and available again after self-isolating, while Henderson has struggled to make an impact in his last three starts.
